God’s Chosen Witnesses
William Kinney
The book of Revelation is a prophecy given to John about what will happen before and after Jesus’ second coming. Revelation chapter 11 is a great prophetic message of how the world will be in those final days of this Earth. Though this chapter is a prophecy, there are a few principles that this chapter has spoken to me, specifically about the two witnesses from Revelation 11:1-14.
After reading and meditating on this passage for quite some time and pondering what God wants me to know and share about Him, I concluded that God will always have the glory no matter what the rest of the world thinks about Him, and God uses His people to bring His glory to the world. The witnesses God places on the Earth in this passage for 1260 days (around three and a half years) are a marvelous testimony of God’s faithfulness. I could not imagine prophesying to a world for that long of a time and probably trying to be killed by the world, which is likely an everyday occurrence for them. However, the world cannot harm them because God grants them the power to defend themselves by fire coming out of their mouths, and if anyone tries even to hurt them, they must be killed by the fire (verse 5).
When we are witnesses for God, He will defend us, one way or another. God also gave these witnesses miraculous powers to stop the rain from falling for the three and a half years of their prophesying, the ability to turn the waters of the Earth into blood and strike the world with every plague as much as they would like.
When we walk in God’s purpose for our lives, God will grant us great responsibility, which most of the world will despise and reject. Yet, when God’s purpose for our lives is fulfilled, He will take away His defense and allow us to be persecuted by the world. I am glad that is not the end of the story! God brings His witnesses back to life into Heaven, in His arms, for His glory. After God’s judgment, the enemies of His witnesses will fear the Lord and give glory to Him.
Can you call yourself a chosen witness of God? If not, the only way to be chosen is to accept Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior, which calls for you to believe in your heart that Jesus Christ died on the cross for your sins, and rose again victoriously, beating Hell and condemnation, so you can too!
“Because, if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.” Romans 10:9
