Doing Good
Angela Cox
“So then, while we [as individual believers] have the opportunity, let us do good to all people [not only being helpful, but also doing that which promotes their spiritual well-being], and especially [be a blessing] to those of the household of faith (born-again believers).” Galatians 6:10 AMP
What does it mean to do good as a believer? Many times, we look at that as giving to the homeless and feeding the hungry. However, there is so much more to our role as Christians to “do good.”
Paul is speaking to the Galatian Christians about not growing tired of doing good. He reminds them that their work will pay off when the “crops” come in. What is Paul referring to? When we are invested and take time to pour into people’s lives, God will reward us with an abundant harvest.
What do you do to do good as a believer? I know for me, it is showing the love of Jesus in my everyday walk. A simple smile, holding the door, or just simply being kind does a lot. I think when we can show love, people see Jesus through it all. Through that love, Jesus rewards us for being obedient!
I think people can look at “doing good” as a lot of work, but the reality is, it is the most freeing thing we can do as Christians. As we let go of our ways and choose to trust the process, we see God’s favor and reap the harvest!
“Delight yourself in the LORD, and he will give you the desires of your heart. Commit your way to the LORD; trust in him, and he will act.” Psalm 37:4-5
“Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.” Proverbs 3:5-6
A big part of doing good is trusting Him. Like Paul is saying in this book, he is speaking to the Galatians that they will be rewarded for their hard work and to not grow tired. It is trusting the process, trusting our Heavenly Father, that the love and good we pour out to the world will be worth the reward.
