Good News for Some
James Mann

“John to the seven churches that are in Asia: Grace to you and peace from him who is and who was and who is to come, and from the seven spirits who are before his throne, and from Jesus Christ the faithful witness, the firstborn of the dead, and the ruler of kings on earth. To him who loves us and has freed us from our sins by his blood and made us a kingdom, priests to his God and Father, to him be glory and dominion forever and ever. Amen. Behold, he is coming with the clouds, and every eye will see him, even those who pierced him, and all tribes of the earth will wail on account of him. Even so. Amen. ‘I am the Alpha and the Omega,’ says the Lord God, ‘who is and who was and who is to come, the Almighty.’” Revelation 1:4-8

Revelation 1:4-8 is an interesting passage because for some people there is great excitement. For others, this passage has many negative implications. Working in children’s ministry, I always get asked, “Why doesn’t everyone believe in Jesus?” The truth is, everyone ends up believing in Jesus, but for many, it will be too late.

This passage shows us that Jesus is coming once again, and every eye will see Him. It is at that point that everyone will believe in Him. It will be difficult for people not to believe in Him as He is face to face with them. For the nonbelievers, this is a terrifying thought. For those who have built that relationship with the Lord, this is exciting. This sense of finally coming into contact with our Lord is the day we are all waiting for. I think this passage brings urgency to our mission while we wait. Thinking about the loved ones that I have that it will be too late for is terrifying. We all have people in our life who have heard of God but have not accepted Him. Matthew 7:23 makes it very clear that there will be those that God says, “I never knew you; depart from me, you workers of lawlessness.”

Verses 5 and 6 do a phenomenal job of showing the Gospel. We have a Father that loves us so much that He freed us from our sins using His own blood through Jesus. By doing this, He created a place for us in Heaven, or as this verse says “a kingdom.” We are beyond blessed to have this love and we should not take it lightly. We should be so excited about this that we are sharing this love with all of those around us. It is not too late, so do your job before it becomes too late.
